Lorena — A New U.S. Citizen Votes

Lorena is an SEIU member who spent years working paycheck to paycheck, raising U.S.-citizen kids who, until 2016, had never voted. The film documents her becoming the political leader in her own family — registering her children, walking them through the ballot, getting her community to the polls.

The brief was specific about audience. Not the choir. The piece was cut for non-Latino viewers — white and Black working-class audiences who didn't necessarily see kinship with Latino immigrants. The argument: Lorena is a worker like you. Her kids didn't know how good they had it. She's the one fixing that.
